In addition to creating good hockey players, PAL Hockey strives to help our players become good citizens. Toward that end, our organization has all of our teams select a community service project for all their players to participate in. Through doing for others, our players learn valuable life lessons that will serve them well in their years to come. See below for a description of each team's project for the 2019-2020 season as well as links to pictures.

10U AAA MINOR JR ISLANDERS - The 10U Minor PAL Jr Islanders team collected donations for the Guide Dog and Vet Dog Foundations. The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind was founded in 1946. Its mission was simple: to provide guide dogs and training – free of charge – to people who were blind or visually impaired.
America’s Vet Dogs was created by the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc. in 2003 to provide assistance dogs to America’s wounded veterans to help them return to a life without boundaries. It costs over $50,000 to breed, raise, train, and place one assistance dog; however, all of the Foundations' services are provided at no charge to the individual. Funding comes from the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, and community organizations. The team collected a tremendous amount of wonderful items that the foundation needs. They also learned about what it takes to become a Guide/Vet dog and how important they are to helping someone live an everyday life...PHOTO

The Book Fairies, a Long Island based non-profit organization, accepts donations of new and gently used books, and connects them with libraries, schools and organizations throughout metropolitan New York that do not have the funds to foster the love of reading for their children. Our boys collected books to donate to the organization which they brought to The Book Fairies warehouse in Freeport, NY. Eileen Minogue, the Executive Director, talked to the boys about the organization, what they do and how they help others in need, locally and globally. They were then organized into groups, in order to help with their latest project which is a 3 mile chain of books to break the Guinness Book of World Records. The boys sorted and measured the books which will be set up in Wyandanch, NY and then donated to that community…PHOTO

15U AAA JR ISLANDERS - Our first team for the 2019-20 season to complete community service and what a great job they did. Two children that have been affected by the disease (FA-Friedreich’s Ataxia) are siblings of one of the players on the 16U JR Islanders. This is a neuromuscular disease that has left his sister in a wheelchair and now his brother is having difficulty walking.
The Capri Family holds an annual skate at Northwell and invites Islander and Ranger Alumni and their Family to have a hockey friendly game. They auction off baskets, raffles, etc. to help raise funds to go to research for the disease. Our team put together a Spider Bite Beer Basket and a Giant Lotto/Scratch off board valued at $150.00 each. The boys participated by selling raffles, 50/50,and by helping out in any way they could; and more importantly, showing their teammate and family we are here to support you! As an organization we are so proud of our players that go out and give back to our community! Great job to all the players and parents for taking the time and putting it into making this event successful!...PHOTO
